Being an empath is both a gift and a curse. Feeling helpless to the negative energies around you is never fun, while feeling oneness is a gift. You can trust yourself that you are feeling the energies around you, so don’t go into self-doubt, and there are things you can do to make life easier without compromising your gifts.
What is an Empath?
Being an empath means that you are able to feel the energies around you, including the energy of thoughts and emotions of people around you.
There are many channels for extrasensory awareness, including clairaudience (hearing energy), claircognisance (knowing without knowing how you know, clairvoyance (seeing energy), and clairsentience (where you feel the sensations of energy in your body).
Clairsentience is most likely your main mode if you are an empath. Clairsentience is what activates when you are sensing the emotion of other people in your body. The way that empaths feel, is by sensing energy and entraining with it.
So for example, if you are an empath and happen to come across someone emitting the energy pattern of anger, or resentment as it emanates from another person, your energies will mimic that energy pattern, and you will start to feel it because your personal energies have transformed according to it.
This can be very uncomfortable in the world such as it is at the moment, but here are some things you can do to improve it:
Natural environments, natural energy.
Be in nature as much as you can. This will help you to purify and balance your fields, take in a positive and restful recharge, and support you in maintaining the integrity of the energies you want to hold.
Being at the ocean is restful (in part) because the moving water and the salt create an abundance of negative ions in the air. The salt water also purifies your fields of negative energy.
Looking at natural environments is healthy for your brain and balances the hemispheres. Forest bathing is another form of rejuvenation.
Grounding to keep your body strong
Put your bare feet on the earth to discharge positive ions from your body into the Earth. An excess of positive ions is unhealthy for the body and are weakening.
Screens, electromagnetic pollution, and dust create positive ions that can make you feel fatigues and unwell. Negative ions are what you need to restore your nervous system, to discharge the stresses of the day, and help you to re-balance your energy system.
Get in tune with what your body is asking for. Rest, time alone, good company, clean food… Your nervous system needs nurturing.
Keep your energy fields strong and clean
There are many ways to do this on the fly. You can imagine energy as snow flakes, touching down on your field and each flake charging up your field.
You can also connect with the earth and with the sun and pull energy up from the ground and in from the sun into your cells. We are meant to be breathing with the energies of the planet, not blocked off from it by concrete.
Salt water baths help to clean your fields of pollution from the day and heal your fields.
Your emotional and psychological constitution will translate into your energetic one. Avoiding entertainment and maintaining your energetic integrity comes from the practice of need to practice being aware, without taking on the energies that you sense. What’s theirs is theirs, and what’s yours is yours.
You can practice a from of shielding with your heart energy. Close your eyes and concentrate on your heart to connect with it. Feel it’s energy signature, and allow that energy to flood you, infuse you, and surround you. Keep your focus entrained to the energy signature of your heart, and attempt to make that connection stronger than your entrainment to external energies.

Also know that whatever you take on, you can purify and restore, so don’t form a huge resistance or go into fear. The point is to feel that you can control your fields and understand in your heart that you need not be at the mercy of what or who is around you. Your eternal being is much stronger than any of these unpleasant frequencies.
Generally speaking, a strong energy field comes from your own inner balance and well being. Shadow work, healing, inner child work, nurturing yourself, and energy healing etc keeps your fields strong and coherent (like chainmail) while remaining gentle and free flowing.
